Company retreats are good opportunities for employees to relax and get to know their coworkers. But the company retreat can only be successful if your employees feel safe and happy throughout the experience. Here are some guidelines to help ensure that your employees get the most out of your company retreat:

Do Have a PlanCOMM Week 2B

Before going on a company retreat, know what your goals are. Do you want to build camaraderie among your employees? Encourage them to get fit and healthy? All of the above?

If you have a corporate wellness expert, collaborate with them. You’ll have someone who has your back and can help you organize and prepare for the trip. Specifically, they can plan what activities would be best for employees based off of what they know about the company’s overall fitness level.

Don’t Ignore Employee Concerns

If your employees don’t feel safe or comfortable about going, then they won’t go or they won’t enjoy the company retreat because they will be stressed the entire time. When planning for your company retreat, it’s a good idea to have a meeting with your employees and discuss any concerns they may have.

For example, what will the living situation be like while they’re there? Does the retreat have a professional medical team on standby should something happen? If they are going to participate in physical activity, will there be trained and certified fitness professionals onsite? Address these concerns and any others so they employees can have peace of mind and look forward to the trip.

Do Have Activities for Everyone

There’s nothing worse than going on a company retreat only to find that there’re no fitness activities you can do or are interested in and everything is strictly scheduled. When planning a company retreat, make sure there are activities that everyone can do, regardless of their fitness level and skill. Activities can include:

Are there hotel staff or park rangers who coordinate events at your chosen retreat? If so, work with them to customize your company’s experience and schedule so your employees can choose what they’d like to do and not get burned out. Employees will be more likely to enjoy the company retreat and, by extension, working at your company.
